Michael Grosso
Michael Grosso learned to draw before he learned to read. Reading led him into the world of ideas, and eventually into obtaining a Ph.D in philosophy from Columbia University. Drawing and painting became part of his secret night life while he was teaching philosophy, researching and writing books about the mysteries of consciousness. This was his day job. Painting the Paranormal is meant to celebrate the coming together of childhood passion and adult profession. As a teacher, he worked for his students, tried to train their intellects but also free up their creative imaginations. In his night life, he surrended to intuition, impulse, image-making. We all need some kind of art to care for our soul—that’s the message of this website. We need a totally free way to explore our own unknown creative potential.
Manifesto: Art on the Brink
Art is what we make of life, not what life gives us.
Religion, science, art: the high forms of consciousness.
Religion offers glimpses of transcendence but is marred by fanaticism and fundamentalism.
Science and technology have done wonders. But also created the current climate catastrophe and diabolic weapons of mass destruction.
The combined result is looming disaster for the planet and for the majority of human beings.
That leaves us with art. Art is not in the business of killing. It is about creativity, empathy, active imagination.
Art, in all its forms, speaks to the soul of things and honors the miracle of living nature.
Ways to make art are infinite. Each way is a style of perception, a way to animate and enrich experience.
The medium may be paint, sound, stone, food, words, your body, your life.
The greatest art is the art of living: the only art where you are the artist, the critic, and the perfect audience.
If we are free agents, we are shapeshifters of experience.
As such we are all artists.
This website is about art and the coming renaissance of consciousness.
